  • Google Cloud is being used to power third-party tools used by USCIS, a part of the Department of Homeland Security, reports The Verge; Google is not director named in official docs, but USCIS is making use of Apigee Edge Private Cloud, which relies on Google to manage APIs; some Google staff have raised concerns about the company working with government organizations, especially in the area of immigration - Link

  • Waymo encourages the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to remove some regulatory limits for self-driving tech; Waymo is asking the organization to drop a number of rules including requiring safety drivers in vehicles without steering wheels and brake pedals; Waymo notes the NHTSA should move quickly to revise its current standards while also maintaining rider safety - Link

  • US prosecutors are investigating Huawei over alleged IP theft, according to sources for The Wall Street Journal; the company is accused of stealing trade secrets from several companies and individuals over a number of years; Huawei is yet to comment on the report - Link

  • Swiss banking software company Temenos acquires Austin-based app platform company Kony for $559M, plus a reported $21M in earn-outs; Kony is the top US SaaS banking company and develops the Kony DBX suite of mobile banking apps; Chairman and CEO Thomas Hogan will serve as president of Temenos North America; Kony previously raised $152M - Link
